Green Valley Ranch Library: Micro-adventures with Kids
Let’s talk about micro-adventures with kids! We see the mountains from our windows, but between the demands of work and family, it’s a real challenge to find the time, money, and energy to escape. Luckily, there are pockets of wilderness right here in Denver that are just waiting to be explored by adventurous kids and their caregivers. A micro-adventure is any outdoor excursion that’s short, simple, close-to-home, and cheap—but still exciting. Join local outdoors writer Jamie Siebrase for a fun and interactive talk about micro-adventures, and get ready to learn about the pockets of kid-approved wilderness that exist within a walk or Light Rail ride from Green Valley Ranch Library.

Pearl Street Farmers Market
Visit me at the Old South Pearl Farmers Market. I’ll be hanging out at the Second Star to the Right booth with crafts, coloring sheets, games, and snacks.

Douglas County Library Series: Family Field Trips
Want to sneak in a little learning while exploring the great outdoors?
In writing, the adage is, “Show, don’t tell.” That rule works equally well for education, where real-world experiences tend to be more meaningful to kids than textbooks and lectures. In this interactive talk, I’ll discuss the concept of family field trips and share ideas and tips for planning experiential adventures in Colorado and beyond. Get ready to learn about the Front Range’s best nature centers, farms, outdoor history museums, art walks, open-air theaters, story walks, and so much more. This is the second talk in a free, three-part series hosted by Douglas County Libraries.

Douglas County Library Series: Hiking with Kids
Ready to go on more family hikes this summer?
It's easy to get overwhelmed when planning a Colorado hike, especially one that involves children. Join me at the Highlands Ranch Library for the first event in a three-part summer series. I’ll share secrets for choosing perfect trails for your family as well as ideas for keeping kids engaged—and maybe even meltdown free!—from trailhead to summit and back. You’ll walk away from this interactive talk with plenty of fodder to fuel a summer of unforgettable family adventures.

WOW Children's Museum Literacy Festival
WOW Children’s Museum in Longmont is teaming up with the Read Queen bookstore to host its first annual Literacy Festival on Saturday, May 4. This free public event will feature 24 local authors and illustrators showcasing a variety of children’s books. Guests can also try crafts and hands-on activities. I’ll have a table at the festival from 2:30 to 4:00 pm, and I’d love to see you there!

Outdoor Adventure Writing Workshop
Join Denver-based outdoors writer Jamie Siebrase for a three-hour "field" workshop at the Denver Audubon Kingery Nature Center near Chatfield State Park. In addition to reading and analyzing short nature writing samples, students will learn about creative nonfiction techniques such as point of view and concrete detail. Be ready to head outside to observe, draw, and write about the wild landscape surrounding Kingery Nature Center. During the workshop, participants will gain access to the Rocky Mountain Land Library's Children’s Collection at the Kassler Center (located at the base of Waterton Canyon), where they'll find additional inspiration and practice their craft using writing prompts. After a low-ley nature walk (approximately 2 miles) students will return to the nature center where they started to share their work, if they'd like.
Hosted by Denver Writes, The Bookies, and Denver Audubon Society

2024 CCIRA Conference on Literacy
